Green Buzz Agency | US Department of Veterans Affairs - Office of Mental Health Services
Fall 2022
Role: Director, Producer

Every year, more than five thousand Veterans die by suicide in the United States. The Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention is working to change that. In 2022, the Veterans Crisis Line shortened from a ten digit number to three digits, making it faster and easier to remember than ever before, even during a crisis. This spot was created as part of a campaign to unfold the clues that can lead to a Veteran needing to call the VCL, across very different life circumstances and triggers.

As lead producer on this project, I led the VA and their communications agency partners through concepting and brainstorming to settle on this concept that emphasizes the audio story of several different callers to the Veterans Crisis Line. Once this concept was decided upon, I spearheaded the video production and planning to create the various spots and versions for both digital and broadcast placement. We split the character scriptwriting amongst several team members, so that each character had their own distinct voice and delivery. I worked closely with a talented art director and DP team to meticulously plan the details that would be laid out in the room of each of our three main Veteran characters, collaborating with Veteran advisors from the client side to ensure authenticity in the details and military elements laid out in each space. I directed during the on-site shoot days as well as the days in the recording studio with our various voice actors, and a close collaborator with our post team during the edit to ensure a resonant and authentic final series.
